Licensed Field Director
Position Overview
True North is seeking applicants for the position of Field Director to join our Ottawa Team on the 2025 Field Season on a fixed term contract basis. If you’re motivated and looking to grow as an experienced consulting archaeologist, True North is the place for you. This opportunity is currently seasonal but may move full-time for the right applicant.
As a Field Director with True North, you will be responsible for all aspects of the in-field project life-cycle, with a focus on leading field crews. Fieldwork will be located within the Ottawa Valley as well as throughout all of Ontario. The weekly schedule will generally run Monday to Friday with the potential for some weekend work.
Job Responsibilities
As an Field Director working for True North you will:

Complete field and office requirements for Stage 1 through to Stage 4 projects to MCM Standards with guidance from Senior TNAS staff

Direct field manageable teams of between 2 and 6 staff

Supervise, provide training and mentorship to archaeological field technicians

Lead Stage 2 - 4 archaeological field assessments in a variety of work environments in all weather conditions across the province

Work collaboratively with Indigenous Community Members, and provide support to other team members in the field and office

Work closely with Senior staff to further the knowledge and experience needed for your Professional License

Lead daily health and safety tailgate meetings, have a safety-first attitude at all times and comply with company health and safety policies

Perform other duties as required, including but not limited to fieldwork, artifact analysis, reporting and research
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Valid Research license to conduct archaeological fieldwork granted by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism

Excellent working knowledge of the MCM's Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists

Ability to work independently with guidance from senior TNAS staff

Proven experience working in Ontario on a variety of site types, including rural, urban and multicomponent
-
Demonstrated dedication to meaningful relationships with Indigenous Communities
-
Knowledge of Ontario cultural history and material culture is an asset
-
Good written and verbal communication skills
-
Strong organizational skills
-
Dedication to health and safety and knowledge of employee's requirements and responsibilities within the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
-
Valid Ontario driver's license and access to reliable transportation
-
First Aid/CPR certification
-
Have a "safety first" attitude at all times
